Holmsjöleden is a trail, which mainly runs in woodland around Holmsjön. It is located west and southwest of Överum. It has a connection to the Tjustleden stage 8.
Holmsjöleden is a 10-kilometer loop, which starts on the outskirts of Överum at a gravel field, called Stenkrossen. Here is Håkantorpsvägen and after a hundred meters you can connect to Tjustledens stage 8, but Holmsjöleden continues the old road towards the village of Karlshult. After a few hundred meters, the trail turns off the road and into the forest until Knuvebovägen. Knuvebo used to be a tenant farm under Överums bruk, but is now privately owned.
The trail comes back out on the old Karlshultvägen and crosses the current road between Karlshult and Överum and then passes the residence Gränsen, which is now demolished. A man called "Bräcke i Gränsen" used to live here. He made his living by walking around and buying up horse and cow dung. You then walk in woodland for a bit before you meet a rest area with a guest book.
You pass another croft on the way to Holmsjön and it is Källsåker. On the way down the hill towards the lake was the croft Tegen. Here at Tegen Johan Ögrim held sermons in the late 1800s. He also had Sunday school here. Johan Ögrim joined the Salvation Army and eventually became a commander there.
You then continue around the southern tip of Holmsjön and there is another nice place to rest. The trail continues north towards the croft Karlsäng, which is now demolished. Then you leave Holmsjön and continue through the forest to the starting point "Stenkrossen".
