In August 2024, the windbreak at Borgberget on Ankarsrumsslingan was inaugurated. The windbreak was created by architecture students in connection with ArkNat in Västervik municipality.

The windbreak is located about 100 meters into the forest from the gravel road (Ankarsrumsslingan) at the sign for Borgberget. Don't miss continuing the loop up Borgberget itself, which offers a magical view of the surroundings.

Borgberget's ancient castle was probably built in the 400-500s, a couple of hundred years before the Viking Age began - the so-called Migration Period. It was a time of great feuds and strife between the races and the Svear and Götic tribes.

More than 30 castles are registered in the Tjust region, to which the castle belongs. The castles were mainly used as refuges from hostile crowds, some were also used for sacrifices and worship to the gods. Because of the castles' consistently high locations, they were also used as a warning system through the villages with so-called vårdkasar (large fires).
